Foetus found in rubbish bag in Glenwood

Police are urging members of the public to come forward with any information – after a newborn foetus was found wrapped in a black rubbish bag in the Glenwood area.

A resident made the discovery at around 11am yesterday, on Esther Roberts Road.

Medics who assessed the baby say the infant had already died.

SAPS spokesperson Thembeka Mbhele says officers discovered the foetus after opening the discarded plastic bag.

Mbhele advised expectant mothers who feel they aren’t ready to become a parent, to turn to the authorities for assistance.

“I’ll also like to appeal to the women that get pregnant to contact the nearest social worker for assistance and advice, rather than concealing the birth of that child –¬†because that foetus has the right to live as well,” she said.

Police are investigating a case of concealment of death.
